Addiction Treatment Therapy

Addiction treatment therapy at New Method Wellness offers one of the most diverse and comprehensive programs for the treatment of substance abuse, behavioral addiction and dual diagnosis in the country. We believe that everyone can heal from past wounds and that recovery is possible. Everyone who walks through our doors has their own unique story and set of experiences that have brought them here. The following is a list of therapies available at New Method Wellness that in combination, create an individualized treatment plan for everyone we have the privilege to work with.

Medical Detoxification:

We offer a safe and comfortable detoxification process that allows for stabilization under the care of a physician who specializes in addiction medicine. Whether your drug of choice is cocaine, alcohol, methamphetamines, marijuana, benzodiazepines, heroin, prescription medications or club drugs, the process of those substances leaving your system requires the supervision of a medical professional. Our Medical Director is available to meet with each of our clients and to direct and oversee the complete detox process while assuring the safety of everyone who comes through our doors. Our medical and therapeutic team will strive to make the course of your detoxification as comfortable as possible.

Sand Play Therapy

Sand Play Therapy is a form of counseling or psychotherapy that uses play to communicate with and help clients ease their way into recovery. This is thought to help them towards better social integration, growth and development. A Sand Play therapist observes a client playing with toys (miniatures, animals, archetypes, etc.) to determine the causes of drug and alcohol abuse challenges. The objects and patterns of play, as well as the willingness to interact with the therapist, can be used to understand the underlying rationale for behavior both inside and outside the session.

Solution Focused Therapy:

Solution Focused Therapy is a brief therapy aimed at helping individuals make significant changes in their lives and their relationships with others. By focusing on new ways of thinking, behaving and interacting with others and the world around them, clients develop the skills to live their lives differently. In Solution Focused Therapy, personal recovery goals are identified and specific strategies for achieving those goals are developed. Clients are assigned “homework” in order to practice these new strategies. In combination with process therapies, holistic treatments and a 12-step approach to sobriety, Solution Focused Therapy can be a powerful technique for lasting change.

Equine Assisted Therapy:

Equine Therapy incorporates the use of horses to facilitate positive, long lasting behavior changes. As horses are incredibly intuitive creatures, interacting with them helps to build self-esteem and a connection with something outside ourselves. A horse’s sensitivity to nonverbal stimulus gives them an amazing ability to read people and reflect our emotional states back to us. Horses have an incomparable understanding of the feelings and emotional stress that a person is going through. Therapy with the use of horses can often help individuals realize truths about themselves that they never would have found otherwise. Equine therapy at New Method Wellness is conducted under the supervision and guidance of a trained professional that has worked extensively with horses and also has experience in the field of addiction medicine.

Art Therapy:

As addicts, our clients are experts in rationalizing their decisions, behaviors and thoughts. Art Therapy is a very powerful technique that helps to get to the core issues and feelings in a way that is uncensored and real. Getting to the root of what troubles us can be an essential part of the process of healing. By bringing to light those issues that keep us stuck, we can resolve them and reduce the power they have over us. Art therapy is not about artistic ability, but about finding the truth within the deepest parts of ourselves.

Process Groups:

Process groups are therapy groups that allow each participant to deal with whatever issue or problem they are struggling with at the time. Clients have the opportunity to explore in depth, the feelings and beliefs they have that keep them stuck in the self destructive cycle. By sharing with others, being supported by others, hearing the experiences of others, one realizes they are not alone, and are offered new perspectives and ideas about how to move through their current difficulties and make lasting life changes.

Guided Imagery:

Guided imagery is a form of meditation in which a trained practitioner leads our clients in formulating images of ourselves as healthy, whole beings. By envisioning our self in the future, as a person in recovery with balance and serenity, we instill in ourselves the hope that we can attain that goal. Creating hope that one can move through addiction and come out the other side is critical in the success of one’s recovery process. At New Method Wellness we know you can recover from addiction and we want to help you come to believe that as well.

Music Therapy:

Music Therapy works by allowing the brain chemistry to calm down and enter a relaxed state. With soothing sounds and positive messages, music helps bring awareness of life back into the now. Letting go of one’s self while listening to music can be very beneficial in the initial recovery process. Once you open up to the sounds and feelings that music provokes, a higher healing process can begin to take place. At New Method Wellness we integrate a variety of meditative techniques in the treatment plans of all our clients. Music therapy is one of these techniques.

Mindful Eating:

Learning how to eat to be healthy and happy can be difficult; as such we use the services of a registered dietician to teach mindful eating. Mindful eating is eating that is not used to cover up feelings or be an addictive vice that is replacing drugs or alcohol. Mindful eating requires that individuals listen to their bodies to determine what and how much food needs to be consumed. Training the body to enjoy food rather than eating to become full or stuffing feelings can be a joyous process with which New Method Wellness can help.

Nutritional Counseling:

Many people who struggle with addiction issues do not have healthy, well balanced diets. Nutritional deficiencies impact a person’s ability to heal physically from the damage drugs and alcohol have caused in our bodies. Without proper nutrition, the process of post acute withdrawal will also be extended. Our registered dietician will provide an individualized nutritional plan designed to help you attain optimal health as well as educating you on healthy diet and exercise.

Therapeutic Massage:

When first transitioning into the recovery process, people may undergo an uncomfortable period in which their body and mind are not aligned. The use of therapeutic massage can be a powerful type of treatment that can help realign a person’s being and aid in the recovery process. New Method Wellness offers the services of skilled professionals to help our clients get back in touch with their bodies. We are proud to provide these massage services because this healthy physical touch can be essential to the healing process. Additionally, individuals learn more about healthy boundaries and practices that can aid them in finding their spiritual and emotional center even after the treatment process has been completed.

By combining the best of both Eastern and Western medicine, as well as philosophies, we have found that our arsenal of effective tools is doubled and our clients receive the benefits of this. Acupuncture treatment for addiction has been proven to be extremely effective and clients report improved memory, more optimistic attitudes, reductions in cravings and anxiety, and fewer episodes of sleep disturbance. At New Method Wellness we strongly emphasize the complementary nature of many different types of therapies in order to offer our clients great, effective treatment options.

Hypnotherapy is a safe therapeutic technique and can be a highly effective form of treatment for many addictive, emotional, psychosomatic, and physical disorders. Our certified hypnotherapists help clients move into a trancelike state in which they are in a heightened, more receptive frame of mind. They are able to get in touch with feelings, memories and thoughts they may otherwise be unable to access. During hypnotherapy, clients are not unconscious, but are in a deep state of relaxation. In hypnotherapy, clients do not do things that they would be unwilling to do otherwise. We have found this to be a very powerful healing technique, especially in conjunction with the other evidence-based therapies offered at New Method Wellness.

Meditation is a self-directed practice for relaxing the body and calming the mind and is used as a way to reduce stress. Most meditative techniques have come to the West from Eastern religious practices, particularly India, China, and Japan, but can be found in all cultures of the world. Studies have found that regular meditation can increase longevity and quality of life by reducing chronic pain, anxiety, high blood pressure and substance abuse. At New Method Wellness we believe in a holistic and comprehensive approach to treating addiction and find mediation to be a valuable asset in treating our clients.

12-Step Recovery:

Optional 12-step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous have been helping addicts find the path to recovery for over 60 years. By connecting with other addicts and offering a fellowship that spans the world, our clients have discovered a support system they never thought possible. At New Method Wellness, we encourage clients to attend 12 step meetings as we have found that by integrating a strong12-step recovery program with evidence-based psychotherapy and holistic treatments, we have a created a powerful and successful treatment program that works.
